IMéRA - Institute for Advanced Study

IMéRA is a foundation of Aix-Marseille University and an institute for advanced studies. As such, it is one of the members of the French network of institutes of advanced studies (RFIEA) and it takes part in the EURIAS programme where the major European institutes of advanced studies are involved.

Attracting researchers and artists

IMéRA welcomes researchers and artists and offers residential accommodation for stays ranging from 3 to 12 months depending on calls for applications. For short-term stays, it also hosts some multidisciplinary teams with collective projects. Residents carry out their own research projects in relation with teams and laboratories of Aix-Marseille University. The institute provides hosts with flats (14 on campus), office rooms, meeting rooms and a conference room (seating 50), together with several common rooms.

Promoting transversal approaches

IMéRA research ventures promote interactions between human and social sciences (HSS), between sciences, between HSS and hard, experimental and health sciences, between arts and sciences. They explore and develop interface zones that may emerge between disciplines, and the new objects in the making in these in-between spaces.

IMéRA's mission is to play a role in the emergence and development of world-class interdisciplinary research approaches. It contributes to preparing young researchers to engage in these approaches in the context of Aix-Marseille University. IMéRA is also keen to welcome projects dealing with Mediterranean issues and submitted by Mediterranean researchers.
